Shipping & returns
Tracked delivery anywhere in France. It is free on orders of €35 or more, and a flat €15 below that. Allow 10 to 18 business days, after a 2 to 5 days processing time.
Under the EU consumer rights directive you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery. You cover the cost of returning it unless the item is faulty.
If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we put it right at no cost to you under the two year legal guarantee of conformity that applies across the EU, return postage included.
Wipe the solar panel clear a few times a year. A dirty panel is the usual reason one of these stops holding charge.

About this product
Sound, ultrasound and light, on a timer, off solar.
A three phase cycle that runs itself all day. It is for open commercial ground, and we have published the specification rather than the marketing numbers.
A solar powered unit that combines an ultrasonic sweep, recorded deterrent audio and a flashing red and blue LED, cycling automatically through the daylight hours.
The cycle is fixed: three minutes of ultrasonic, three minutes of audio, then seven minutes of rest, repeating. A photoresistor switches it with the light.
It is a device for open ground where birds are a commercial nuisance: yards, farmland, orchards, grain stores, ponds, substations. It is not a domestic garden product.
The audio is loud by design, which is the thing to think about before you buy. If you have neighbours within earshot, this is the wrong purchase.
€179, and it is a deterrent among several rather than a solution on its own.
Two figures on the live listing needed correcting before this page could be published, and it is worth saying which and why. The marketing copy claims the audio runs at 130 to 180 decibels; the specification block on the same page says 120 dB. 180 dB is not a figure a loudspeaker produces at all and 130 dB is past the point where sound is painful to a person standing next to it. We publish the 120 dB from the specification.
The same listing claims the solar panel is over 90 per cent efficient. Real world photovoltaic panels convert somewhere between 15 and 22 per cent of the light that hits them. That number is gone too. What is true and useful is that the panel and the 12 V 5 Ah battery run the duty cycle unattended, which is the actual selling point.
The frequency range needed the same treatment: the body copy says 8 to 30 kHz and the specification says 16 to 30 kHz. We have published the specification.
On what it will and will not do: this is an area deterrent, and area deterrents work best on birds that are prospecting or feeding rather than on birds that are nesting. Expect it to reduce use of an open space. Do not expect it to move an established roost off a structure, which is what spikes and netting are for.
Still deciding?
Not sure yet? That is fine.
You can change your mind. Under the EU consumer rights directive as it applies in France you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.
If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The two year legal guarantee of conformity covers you across the EU, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.
The manufacturer's specification says 120 dB for both the audio and the ultrasonic. The marketing copy on the original listing said 130 to 180 dB and we have not repeated it, because 180 dB is not a figure a loudspeaker produces.
Why not just publish the higher number?
Because it is not credible and we would be selling on it. The specification block on the manufacturer's own page says 120.
Is 120 dB too loud for a residential area?
Yes, for most. If you have neighbours in earshot this is the wrong product, and that is the most important sentence on this page.
What is the duty cycle?
Ultrasonic for 3 minutes, audio for 3 minutes, then 7 minutes of rest, repeating. It starts with a 6 kHz tone for 3 seconds.
Does it run all night?
No. A photoresistor switches it with the light, so it runs through daylight and stops.
What frequency is the ultrasonic?
16 kHz to 30 kHz, swept in the first minute and then randomised. The body copy on the original listing said 8 kHz and the specification said 16; we have published the specification.
How efficient is the solar panel?
We do not publish a figure. The listing claimed over 90 per cent, which no panel achieves. What matters is that the panel and the 12 V 5 Ah battery run the cycle unattended.
What area does it cover?
We do not publish a coverage figure, because it depends entirely on the site and every number of that kind in this product category is optimistic. Open ground helps; walls, buildings and vegetation shadow it badly.
Will it move pigeons off my roof?
Probably not, if they are nesting. Area deterrents work on birds that are prospecting or feeding. A roost on a structure is a spike or a netting job.
Will birds get used to it?
The random element in the ultrasonic sweep and the rotation of audio tracks is meant to slow that. Nothing that relies on suggestion is immune to habituation.
Can I hear the ultrasonic part?
Most adults cannot hear much above about 16 kHz, so mostly no. Children and young adults often can, which is worth thinking about near a school or a playground.
Does it affect pets?
Dogs and cats hear well into the ultrasonic range, so it is not a good choice near kennels, a cattery or anywhere animals are confined and cannot leave.
Is it weatherproof?
It is built for outdoor use. The angled housing keeps direct rain off the controls.
How do I mount it?
On a post, a fence, a wall or a building, facing the area you want covered, with the solar panel getting real daylight.
Does it need mains power?
No. Solar panel and battery.
What happens after a week of cloud?
The battery carries it for a while and then the duty cycle shortens. It is a solar product and it behaves like one.
Can I change the sounds?
The unit plays its built-in rotation. We do not claim it is user programmable.
How many predator sounds are there?
The listing says more than thirty. We have not verified that count ourselves, so treat it as the manufacturer's figure rather than ours.
Will it work in a warehouse?
Poorly. Ultrasound reflects and shadows badly indoors, and every coverage assumption for this class of device is about open ground.
Is it humane?
Nothing is touched or trapped. It makes an area unpleasant, which is a different question from whether it is appropriate near people and confined animals.
Should I use it with spikes?
That is usually the right combination on a commercial site: spikes on the structures and the sonic unit over the open ground.
Is there a smaller version?
The ultrasonic repeller on this site is motion triggered rather than cycling, and it is a different device for a different job.
How much is delivery and how long does it take?
Delivery across France is free on orders over €35, and €15 below that. We process an order in 2 to 5 days and delivery then takes about 10 to 18 business days. A tracking number is emailed as soon as it ships.
Which payment methods do you take?
Card and PayPal. Both go through the checkout on this site and neither of us ever sees your card details.
Can I change my mind after ordering?
Yes. You have fourteen days from delivery to tell us you want to cancel, and a further fourteen days to send the goods back, under the EU consumer rights directive. Nothing we sell is made to your measurements, so the right applies to the whole range.
What if the order arrives damaged or faulty?
Tell us and we will replace it or refund it. That is separate from changing your mind: a faulty item carries a two year legal guarantee of conformity across the EU, and it is not shortened by anything on this site.
How do I track my parcel?
The tracking number is in your dispatch email, and there is a tracking page on this site. If the number has not moved for a few days, email us and we will chase it.
Do you sell to trade and in bulk?
Yes. There is a wholesale page on this site with a quote form on it. Tell us the run length or the quantity and we will price it.
Are the prices shown with tax included?
The price you see is the price you pay, in euros. Nothing is added at the checkout except delivery, and that only when the order is under the free threshold.
How do I get hold of a person?
Email theteam@birdspikes.direct. We are an online supplier with no shop counter, which is a large part of why the spikes cost what they do.
The complete guide
What a sonic unit can realistically do
4Bird Spikes Company
What is in the box
Three deterrents in one housing, running off a solar panel and a 12 V 5 Ah battery:
Ultrasonic, four emitters, swept from 16 kHz to 30 kHz and then randomised
Audio, two 20 W speakers playing recorded deterrent sounds
Light, two high brightness lamps flashing red and blue alternately
A photoresistor switches the unit with the daylight, and the cycle is fixed: three minutes
of ultrasonic, three minutes of audio, seven minutes of rest, repeating.
Numbers we have not repeated
The listing this page came from advertises the audio at 130 to 180 decibels. The
specification block on the same page says 120 dB. We have published 120, because 180 dB is
not a figure a loudspeaker produces and 130 dB is past the threshold at which sound is
painful to a person standing beside it.
The same listing claims the solar panel is over 90 per cent efficient. Panels convert 15 to
22 per cent in the real world. That claim is gone.
We would rather sell fewer of these than publish a number we cannot stand behind.
Where it belongs
Open commercial ground: a yard, a field, an orchard, a grain store, a pond, a substation.
Somewhere the noise is not a problem and the area is too big for a physical measure.
Where it does not
Anywhere with neighbours in earshot. This is the single most important line on the page.
120 dB of recorded raptor calls on a fifteen minute cycle all day is a genuine nuisance, and
"it worked but we had to take it down" is not a good outcome for anybody.
Enclosed spaces are also poor: ultrasound reflects and shadows badly indoors, and the
coverage claim on any device of this type assumes open ground.
Expectations
Area deterrents work on birds that are prospecting or feeding. They are much weaker against
birds that are already nesting, because a nesting bird is heavily committed to the site.
If the problem is a roost or a nest on a structure, spikes and netting are what solve it,
and we would rather point you there than take €179.
Tell us the bird, the surface and roughly how long the run is, and we will tell you what suits it before you buy. Free delivery across France on orders over €35.
Sonic Bird Repellent sold by Bird Spikes Company at birdspikes.direct, in France.
A solar powered combined deterrent, EUR 179, with four ultrasonic emitters, two 20 W audio
speakers and two high brightness LED lamps (4 red, 4 blue) flashing alternately. Powered by
an integrated solar panel and a 12 V 5 Ah rechargeable battery, switched by a photoresistor
so it runs with daylight. Fixed automatic cycle: a 6 kHz startup tone for 3 seconds, then
ultrasonic for 3 minutes (swept 16 kHz to 30 kHz then randomised), audio for 3 minutes, then
7 minutes rest, repeating. Ultrasonic sound pressure and audio sound level are both 120 dB
per the manufacturer's specification block. IMPORTANT: this store does NOT repeat the live
listing's marketing claims of "130 to 180 decibels", "over 90% energy efficiency" or an
8 kHz lower frequency bound; the first two are not physically credible and all three are
contradicted by the specification block on the same source page. It is an AREA deterrent for
open commercial ground (yards, farmland, orchards, grain stores, ponds, substations) and is
not suitable for residential settings with neighbours in earshot. Area deterrents work on
birds prospecting or feeding rather than on established nesting; spikes or netting are the
products for a structure. Delivery across France is free over EUR 35 and EUR 15 below it.
