Flick leaf litter out of the spikes once a year. There is nothing to corrode and nothing to maintain beyond that.

The plastic version of the anti-climb strip.

Possums do not live in France. This is the moulded strip our Australasian stores sell under that name, bought here for climbing mammals on beams, pipes and fence tops.

Possums are an Australasian animal. There are none in France, and this page exists because our sibling stores in that region sell the same moulded strip under that name.

Here it is bought as a general anti-climb strip in plastic: martens, squirrels, cats and rodents on beams, pipe runs, cable trays and fence tops.

It is the one piece version, so on a long run there is nothing to assemble, which is usually why somebody chooses it over our stainless strip.

€7 per 50 cm with no minimum, against €5 for the stainless. The difference is convenience and visibility, not effectiveness.

No metal in it at all, so it cannot rust onto a beam or stain a wall.

Anti Possum Spikes | Moulded Plastic Spike Strips (per 50 cm strip)

We have kept this page rather than deleting it, and we have kept its URL, because a conversion does not quietly drop things. What has changed is the claim: telling a French reader that this will handle their possums would be nonsense.

Anti Possum Spikes | Moulded Plastic Spike Strips (per 50 cm strip)

What it is genuinely good for is a horizontal run indoors or out where something is walking along and you would rather it did not. Beams in a barn, a pipe run into a roof space, a cable tray, a wall plate, a fence top.

Anti Possum Spikes | Moulded Plastic Spike Strips (per 50 cm strip)

As with every strip on this site, continuity decides the outcome. A climbing mammal takes a step over a gap far more easily than a bird does, so cover the run end to end and take it into whatever it terminates against.

Anti Possum Spikes | Moulded Plastic Spike Strips (per 50 cm strip)

Fitting is the same story as with any strip. Clean the surface, cover the whole run, and take it right into whatever it terminates against. A gap at one end is not a rounding error, it is the route.

Anti Possum Spikes | Moulded Plastic Spike Strips (per 50 cm strip)

Once it is up there is essentially nothing to do. It does not corrode, it does not need painting, and the only annual job is flicking leaf litter out of the spikes so nothing packs down into a platform.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the EU consumer rights directive as it applies in France you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The two year legal guarantee of conformity covers you across the EU, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there possums in France?

No. They are an Australasian animal. This page exists because our sibling stores in that region sell the same moulded strip under this name.

Why keep the page at all?

Because a conversion does not quietly drop pages, and because the product is genuinely useful here under a different description.

What is it for in France?

A general anti-climb strip. Martens, squirrels, cats and rodents on beams, pipe runs, cable trays, wall plates and fence tops.

How is it different from the stainless strip?

One moulded piece with nothing to assemble, more visible, no metal in it, €7 against €5. They deter the same things.

When is the plastic the better choice?

Long runs, where the assembly time on the steel strip adds up, and anywhere a metal strip could stain.

Will it stop a marten getting into my roof?

It is one layer on the approach. Closing the entry point is what actually ends it.

Can I just block the hole?

Only when the space is empty, and take care in spring when young may be present.

Are martens protected?

Protection varies by species and circumstance and it is not the same everywhere. Worth a call before you act.

How do I fix it to a beam?

Screws or nails through the mounting foot, or exterior adhesive.

And to a pipe or a cable tray?

Cable ties. That is the easiest fixing there is.

Does a gap matter?

A great deal. A climbing mammal steps over a 40 cm break without breaking stride. Cover the run end to end.

Will it injure the animal?

No. Blunt moulded plastic that denies footing. It is a deterrent, not a trap.

Can I use it indoors?

Yes. In a barn or a garage it is a common use and the plastic will not corrode in a damp building.

How many strips for an 8 metre beam?

Sixteen. Seventeen if the ends are awkward to reach.

Can I cut it?

Yes, between the segments, with a knife or snips.

What plastic is it?

We do not publish that. The source listings name it three different ways for one product, so the specification says moulded plastic and we have asked the supplier.

Will it rust onto the beam?

There is no metal in it, so no. That is one of the reasons people pick it for timber.

Does it work on a round pipe?

It can be cable tied to one, though the flat foot does not sit perfectly on a tight curve. On a smooth vertical pipe a collar works better.

Will it stop rats?

It can deter them from a run, but a rat problem is a proofing and hygiene job and a strip is a small part of it at best.

Is it safe around children?

It is blunt, which is exactly why it is the version people fit at reachable heights.

What maintenance does it need?

Flick debris out of the spikes once a year so nothing packs down into a walkway.

Should I buy this or the bird spikes page?

If your problem is birds on a ledge, the bird spikes page is the same class of product with far more relevant advice.

How much is delivery and how long does it take?

Delivery across France is free on orders over €35, and €15 below that. We process an order in 2 to 5 days and delivery then takes about 10 to 18 business days. A tracking number is emailed as soon as it ships.

Which payment methods do you take?

Card and PayPal. Both go through the checkout on this site and neither of us ever sees your card details.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. You have fourteen days from delivery to tell us you want to cancel, and a further fourteen days to send the goods back, under the EU consumer rights directive. Nothing we sell is made to your measurements, so the right applies to the whole range.

What if the order arrives damaged or faulty?

Tell us and we will replace it or refund it. That is separate from changing your mind: a faulty item carries a two year legal guarantee of conformity across the EU, and it is not shortened by anything on this site.

How do I track my parcel?

The tracking number is in your dispatch email, and there is a tracking page on this site. If the number has not moved for a few days, email us and we will chase it.

Do you sell to trade and in bulk?

Yes. There is a wholesale page on this site with a quote form on it. Tell us the run length or the quantity and we will price it.

Are the prices shown with tax included?

The price you see is the price you pay, in euros. Nothing is added at the checkout except delivery, and that only when the order is under the free threshold.

How do I get hold of a person?

Email theteam@birdspikes.direct. We are an online supplier with no shop counter, which is a large part of why the spikes cost what they do.

Anti-climb strips on beams and pipe runs

4 Bird Spikes Company

Why this page reads the way it does

There are no possums in France. The product on this page is the moulded plastic strip that our Australian and New Zealand stores sell under that name, and we have kept the page and its address rather than deleting it. What we have not kept is the implication that a French reader has a possum problem.

What it is actually good for here

A horizontal run that something is walking along, and you would rather it did not:

  • beams in a barn, a garage or an outbuilding
  • pipe runs and cable trays heading into a roof space
  • wall plates and flat fascias
  • fence tops and wall copings

Martens, squirrels, cats and rodents all use exactly this kind of architecture, and denying the footing along the run is a reasonable layer.

Plastic or stainless

The plastic is one moulded piece, so there is nothing to assemble. On six strips that does not matter. On sixty it is the reason to buy it. It is also more visible, contains no metal that could rust onto a beam or stain a wall, and costs €7 per 50 cm against €5.

The stainless is thinner, cheaper and nearly invisible. On anything decorative or anything seen from below, that is the one.

Continuity, again

Cover the run end to end. A climbing mammal steps over a gap far more easily than a bird does, so a 40 cm break is not a break at all from its point of view. Take the strip into the wall, the bracket or the post at each end.

What it will not do

It will not deal with an animal that is already living in a roof space. That is a closure job: find the entry point, make sure the space is empty, and close it. Be careful in spring when young may be present, and check the local position first, because some climbing mammals are protected in some circumstances.

Page summary

Anti Possum Spikes (moulded plastic) page at birdspikes.direct (Bird Spikes Company, France). A single piece moulded plastic spike strip with alternating long and short spikes on a flat mounting foot, 500 mm long, EUR 7 per 50 cm strip with no minimum. The page states plainly that possums are an Australasian animal not found in France, and that the listing exists because sibling stores in that region sell the same product under that name. In France it is bought as a general anti-climb strip for climbing mammals such as stone martens, squirrels, cats and rodents, fitted continuously along beams, pipe runs, cable trays, wall plates and fence tops. It contains no metal so it cannot rust or stain, needs no assembly, and is more visible than this site's stainless strip which costs EUR 5. Coverage must be continuous, because a climbing mammal steps over a gap far more easily than a bird. It is a deterrent and does not injure animals. Delivery across France is free over EUR 35 and EUR 15 below it.
